How fat makes you Healthy

I was watching a show last night called ‘Catalyst’. The topic of this show was called ‘Heart of the Matter’.
For the last four decades we’ve been told that saturated fat clogs our arteries and high cholesterol causes heart disease. It has created a multi-billion dollar drug and food industry of “cholesterol free”, “Diet” and “Fate Free” products promising to lower our cholesterol and decrease our risk of heart disease.

But what if we were all being lied to? What if it’s never been proven that saturated fat causes heart disease?

In the 1940’2 a Doctor by the name of Dr. Ancel Keys performed a study on the correlation between saturated fat intake and the population of 7 countries.

What Dr. Keys found was that the higher the intake of saturated fats the population ate, the higher the risks of coronary heart disease and stroke;  Hence the birth of the cut the fat and cholesterol revolution.

But this is where is all gets BAD!

The seven country study was actually originally done on 22 countries. Dr. Keys found that all 22 didn’t match what he wanted to hypothesise so he eliminated the other 15, which changed the final results dramatically.

We were all lied to, we were told to cut fats, eliminate cholesterols and eat a diet high in grains and carbohydrates. Since then the level of heart disease has increased, diabetes has increased obesity is on the upwards.

Now let’s talk about why fats and cholesterol are GREAT!

Cholesterol

Cholesterol has been blamed for the cause of atherosclerosis for too long now. That’s like blaming flies for being around a smelly garbage bin, just because they are always there at the scene, doesn’t mean they caused it (yes, I had to think about the analogy!). Cholesterol is the putty if you like that fills the holes in our arteries that our poor dietary habits create in the first place.

Cholesterol is essential to all life. Every living cell in the universe relies on it and in fact actually produces its own version of it. Without cholesterol we are unable to absorb vitamin ‘ D’ and without this, we die. Your liver even recycles cholesterol for your body to re-use it if it needs it.

Saturated fats

Saturated fat is another daemon words that has been thought of all wrong.

Your Body NEEDS Saturated Fat for Optimal Function. Saturated fats from animal and vegetable (raw and NOT SOY!) sources provide a number of important health benefits. In fact, your body cannot function without saturated fats!

Saturated fats are needed for the proper function of your:

  • Cell Membranes
  • Heart
  • Bones (to assimilate calcium)
  • Liver
  • Lungs
  • Hormones
  • Immune system
  • Satiety (reducing hunger)

Not to mention, saturated fats are YUMMY… BACON… Enough said!

 

The New Fat and Cholesterol Revolution

Now that we have learnt that the doctors are giving us false information or have not done enough recent study to learn how they have even been tricked, it’s time to make some new decisions.

Let’s change our thoughts on fats and cholesterol, let’s get healthy together and revolt against the unhealthy and overweight past that we have been vulnerable to for far too long now.
